Education and Inspiration
For people with exercise-induced Bronchospasm

Do you or does someone you know have trouble breathing during or after exercise? Do you cough, wheeze, or have chest tightness when you exercise? If so, you may have something called exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB)1,2—and you're not alone. An estimated over 30 million Americans —including our contest winner Monica's daughter—have EIB2,3 but many of them don't know it.

EIB is a temporary narrowing of the airways during or after exercise that can make it difficult to breathe. It can be triggered by breathing in air that is cooler and drier than the air in your lungs. If you have EIB, you may experience one or more of these symptoms during or after exercise:1,2

  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest tightness
  • Trouble getting a deep breath
  • Wheezing or noisy breathing
  • Coughing
  • Decreased exercise endurance

EIB doesn't have to keep you from being active. EIB All Star and Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno overcame the symptoms of EIB to achieve success both on and off the rink. With proper diagnosis and the right treatment, you too can prevent EIB symptoms.

*Contest winner was selected by public vote on EIBAllStars.com between 4/15/13 and 5/10/13. Winner announced on or around 5/20/13. Visit our Official Contest Rules.
